Terms and Conditions

These Terms explain how Reverse Marketplace works, what users are responsible for, and how requests, listings, offers, shipping, meetups, returns, reports, and account actions are handled.

Important: These Terms are a working product policy for the marketplace and should be reviewed by an attorney before public launch. A marketplace like this needs legal review for the platform's role versus the buyer/seller role, payments and Stripe, marketplace fees, taxes, seller verification, prohibited goods, inaccurate listings, counterfeit or stolen property, returns/refunds, shipping, meetups, chargebacks, account suspensions, strikes, user content/photo licenses, intellectual-property complaints, disclaimers, liability limits, indemnification, dispute resolution, account deletion, applicable law, changes to terms, and minimum user age.

1. Acceptance of terms

By creating an account, signing in, checking the agreement box, posting a request, creating a listing, sending an offer, accepting an offer, messaging another user, completing checkout, or using Reverse Marketplace, you agree to these Terms and Conditions and the Return Policy.

If you do not agree, you may view public information, but you may not use marketplace actions such as posting, offering, messaging, checkout, reports, or account tools.

2. Marketplace overview

Reverse Marketplace supports two paths. Buyers can post requests for items they want and sellers can send offers. Sellers can also post listings for items they already own and buyers can make offers on those listings.

PathHow it startsHow it continues
Request transactionBuyer posts a request.Seller sends an offer, buyer accepts/counters/declines, then checkout or meetup is arranged.
Listing transactionSeller posts a listing.Buyer sends an offer, seller accepts/counters/declines, then checkout or meetup is arranged.

3. Accounts and user information

Users must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use marketplace features. Reverse Marketplace does not currently perform formal age verification. By creating an account, signing in, posting, listing, offering, messaging, buying, selling, uploading photos, or providing location information through Reverse Marketplace, you confirm that you are at least 18.

Reverse Marketplace is not directed to children under 13, and children under 13 may not create accounts, upload photos, provide personal information, message users, or use marketplace features. If Reverse Marketplace learns that an account may belong to a person who is under 18, the account may be restricted, removed, or reviewed, and related marketplace activity may be paused or deleted where appropriate.

Users must provide accurate account information, including full name, email, phone number when required, and region or location details. You may not impersonate someone else, create misleading accounts, bypass a ban, interfere with another account, or use Reverse Marketplace for fraud or abuse.

4. Requests, listings, and offers

  • Requests must describe items the buyer genuinely wants.
  • Listings must describe items the seller owns or has the legal right to sell.
  • Photos, condition, price, delivery method, return terms, and notes must be accurate.
  • Offers and counteroffers must reflect the real item and real terms the user can complete.
  • Editing a request or listing may void existing offers so users are not bound to outdated terms.

5. Transaction flow

Accepting an offer creates an agreement to continue the transaction. It does not always mean the transaction is complete.

  1. Offer accepted.
  2. For shipping, buyer completes Stripe checkout. For meetup, both sides arrange the agreed date, time, location, and cash payment.
  3. For shipping, seller ships the item and provides valid carrier and tracking information.
  4. Buyer receives or inspects the item.
  5. The transaction is complete after delivery or meetup completion, subject to any eligible return, report, or support process.

6. Payments

Shipped transactions use Stripe checkout when available. Stripe processes the buyer's payment and sends seller proceeds according to the connected Stripe account and payment flow. Meetups are paid in cash at the agreed location and are not processed through Reverse Marketplace checkout.

Reverse Marketplace may display marketplace fees, Stripe processing estimates, taxes, shipping costs, or other charges where applicable. Unless clearly stated otherwise, sellers are responsible for their own income taxes, sales/use tax obligations, shipping costs they agree to cover, and business compliance obligations.

Do not send deposits or payments outside the agreed flow just because another user asks. Off-platform payments may remove important records and make issues harder to review.

7. Chargebacks, payment disputes, and taxes

Users agree to cooperate with reasonable requests for information related to chargebacks, payment disputes, refunds, tax reporting, or transaction reviews. Stripe, card networks, banks, and tax authorities may apply their own rules and deadlines.

Reverse Marketplace does not provide tax advice. Sellers are responsible for determining whether sales, use, income, marketplace, reporting, or other taxes apply to their activity. Depending on the payment structure and sales volume, Stripe or Reverse Marketplace may request tax information or issue tax forms where required.

8. Shipping rules

For shipped transactions, the seller is responsible for packaging the item, paying shipping costs unless clearly included in the offer terms, choosing a valid carrier, and entering accurate carrier and tracking details.

After payment is received, the seller has 48 hours to ship the item and provide carrier and tracking details. Fake tracking, intentionally wrong tracking, or false shipment claims may result in strikes, cancellation, refunds where available, account restrictions, or bans.

9. Meetup rules

Meetups must include an agreed location, date, and time. Both sides should meet in safe, public, well-lit places, inspect the item before paying, avoid unnecessary personal information, and avoid pressure to change to unsafe payment or delivery methods.

Each party must arrive no later than 15 minutes after the agreed time. No-shows, unsafe behavior, or refusal to follow agreed terms may be reported and may result in strikes.

10. Returns, reports, and transaction support

Reverse Marketplace provides transaction support tools such as messages, reports, reviews, tracking records, and return/issue workflows. This does not mean every issue is guaranteed to result in a refund, reimbursement, or reversal. Eligibility depends on the transaction facts, payment route, evidence, and applicable policy.

See the full Return Policy for return windows, eligible reasons, shipping responsibilities, condition requirements, meetup treatment, and refund handling.

11. Verification and reputation labels

Badges and labels should be read exactly as written. For example, "Email Verified" means an email was verified, "Phone Verified" means a phone number was verified, and "Completed Sales" reflects transaction history. A seller rating or activity badge does not mean Reverse Marketplace has verified a person's legal identity unless the badge clearly says ID Verified.

12. Seller verification, INFORM, and tax readiness

As sellers grow, Reverse Marketplace may request additional seller information such as legal name, business name, address, tax information, payout details, identity details, sales volume records, or high-volume seller verification information. This may be needed for payment processing, tax reporting, marketplace safety, Stripe requirements, the INFORM Consumers Act, or other laws.

For planning purposes, the INFORM Consumers Act may require additional collection, verification, certification, disclosure, and suspicious-activity reporting tools for high-volume third-party sellers of new or unused consumer products. Reverse Marketplace may monitor seller activity, sales volume, gross revenue, item condition, and verification status to determine when additional steps are needed.

Online marketplace or payment transactions may also trigger Form 1099-K or other tax reporting obligations depending on the payment structure, seller location, transaction count, gross payment volume, Stripe account setup, and federal or state thresholds. Reverse Marketplace may rely on Stripe for tax forms or seller tax data where supported by the connected account flow, but sellers remain responsible for their own tax records and filings.

If a seller does not provide required information when requested, Reverse Marketplace or Stripe may limit selling features, pause payouts where supported by Stripe, remove listings, restrict shipped transactions, or take other compliance actions.

13. Prohibited items and activity

Users may not post, request, sell, offer, message about, or transact for prohibited items or illegal activity. See the full Prohibited Items page for examples. The prohibited list is not exhaustive, and transactions must comply with law, carrier rules, Stripe requirements, and platform rules.

14. User content and photo license

Users keep ownership of the content they submit, including listing photos, request photos, descriptions, messages, reviews, and reports. By submitting content, users grant Reverse Marketplace a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, display, reproduce, resize, crop, distribute, and use that content as needed to operate, market, secure, moderate, and improve the marketplace.

Users may not upload content they do not have rights to use. If you believe content infringes your intellectual-property rights, contact Reverse Marketplace with enough detail to identify the content and the rights at issue.

15. Reviews, reports, strikes, and account actions

Reviews must be honest and based on real transaction experience. Reports may be submitted for wrong items, missing parts, damage, non-delivery, invalid tracking, no-shows, unsafe behavior, abusive messages, or rule violations.

Rule violations may result in warnings, strikes, deleted content, feature restrictions, bans, or other action. Three strikes may result in a ban.

16. Platform role, disclaimers, and limits

Reverse Marketplace provides tools for requests, listings, offers, messages, notifications, Stripe checkout links, shipment tracking entry, reviews, reports, and account records. Reverse Marketplace is not the manufacturer, owner, shipper, inspector, or guarantor of user-posted items.

Reverse Marketplace does not guarantee that items are authentic, lawful, safe, available, accurately described, or free from defects. Users are responsible for their own posts, purchases, sales, taxes, meetups, shipping, and compliance with law.

17. Indemnification and liability limits

To the fullest extent allowed by law, users agree to defend and hold Reverse Marketplace harmless from claims, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses arising from their listings, requests, offers, messages, transactions, taxes, shipping, meetups, prohibited items, intellectual-property violations, fraud, misconduct, or breach of these Terms.

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Reverse Marketplace is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, lost goodwill, transaction losses, user misconduct, shipping failures, counterfeit items, stolen goods, tax liabilities, or payment disputes caused by users or third parties.

18. Disputes and applicable law

Users should first try to resolve transaction issues through marketplace messages, reports, and support tools. These Terms are intended to be governed by applicable United States law and the laws of the state where Reverse Marketplace operates, unless a different rule is required by law. An attorney should review the final dispute-resolution, arbitration, venue, and governing-law language before launch.

19. Account deletion and record retention

Users may request account deletion where available, but Reverse Marketplace may preserve records needed for transaction history, tax reporting, payment disputes, fraud prevention, safety, account enforcement, legal compliance, or legitimate business purposes.

20. Changes to terms

Reverse Marketplace may update these Terms. Users may be required to accept updated terms before continuing to use marketplace features. Material updates may be communicated through the website, notifications, or email when email sending is configured and available.
